Cooling water systems is considered to be one of the most important parts of any industrial plants, since problems in the cooling systems can cause sever damage, outage of equipment and in some cases plant shutdown. Therefore, chemical conditioning programs of cooling water is a crucial requirement and must be properly selected, applied and monitored. Most recirculating cooling water system maintenance plans include controlled additions of conditioning chemicals. Chemical additions are made for the purposes of microbiological control, corrosion protection, and to increase the solubility of mineral salts. Scale, fouling, corrosion and microbial growth may reduce the operating efficiency and operating life of heat exchange devices like equipment in the cooling system such as cooling towers, distribution pipework, condensers and heat exchangers.
